Join Metros

There are plenty of great reasons to join us here at Metros.

We run organised sessions on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, and Friday and Saturday mornings.  There is an opportunity to socialise with other runners after the session for tea/coffee on Saturdays, and in the tennis club bar on after the Tuesday evening run.

Whatever your age, ability and aspirations, you’ll be joining plenty of other fun, like-minded people.

Not a runner?  Come along and try our Saturday morning session if you are keen to start running but not sure what you can cope with.

Here are some of the events we organise throughout the year on Saturday mornings to tempt you

10K Challenge

The idea behind the 10K Challenge event is that times are graded according to age, so older runners may be slower than younger runners, but their % effort, when measured against the fastest recorded time for someone of their age, may be better. An online calculator for a whole range of athletic events is available here. We use the 2006 calculator.

10k Challenge Route

Measured Mile

We run this timed event in Roxbourne Park four times a year.  As well as getting a time for running a mile, there’s a competition across the year to see who can improve the most across the year.  On other months we vary the format by asking you to guess how long it will take you to run a mile (no looking at your watch).  The winner is the one with the closest guess – this is great for pace judgement.

5 mile Handicap Race

This run round the local streets starting and finishing in Roxbourne Park is timed and runners sets off at intervals with the aim of all arriving back just before 10am.  Each time this is run, the challenge is to beat the time you did previously.
